The Pentagon has relieved Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Bruce Flatley of his duties after the aircraft carrier USS Fullla left port with 847 sailors still boarding at 11:47 on Tuesday. The group missed the retaliatory window entirely.
A formal complaint from the Norfolk Civilian Oversight Board listed three missed morning-ish briefings at the local IHOP, including one marked by syrupy pancakes and absent operational updates. Board chairwoman Marjorie Clocksworth pointed to a sundial on her wrist and demanded departures measured in something stricter than brunch.
Replacement Captain Barnabas Sundroid issued standing orders for laminated sundial cards on every vessel, initialed by the duty yeoman. He described the change as a question of national pride, or at least pride before the eggs cool.
